This country-year dataset documents the recruitment policies--both citizen and legionnaire--that modern governments have used to staff their militaries between 1815 and 2020. The dataset uses coding compatible with Correlates of War resources, and includes details of legionnaire recruitment policies such as method of organization, initial size, and pathways to naturalization, among other attributes.
