What do you mean Russia lies to its legionnaires?

A U.S. father who moved to Russia, purportedly viewing the country as more in line with his personal values, has been stunned to learn that the Putin government ... is, in fact, as bad as everyone says.

Despite reassurances he would not be dispatched into combat in Ukraine, Yahoo news and other outlets report that, "Derek Huffman, 46, feels he is being 'thrown to the wolves'" after Moscow reneged on promises that he would not serve on the frontline.

Mirroring reports from many others of Moscow's legionnaires--both volunteers and conscripts--it appears Russian authorities provided just three weeks of instruction (in Russian, which Huffman does not speak) before deploying. And as his partner describes it, "her husband had been misled during the military recruiting process. [...] after a month of service, her family had yet to receive any pay."
